Posibilidad hopes that visitors to this website will consider donating to our program.  We realize that  many good donation options are available.  Therefore your consideration of our program is appreciated.

When the current director met the first two sponsored students in 2006, what impressed him most was their sincerity.  Since then, our sponsored students and their families have been extremely appreciative of the assistance that we have provided. Our students have demonstrated increased commitment to their academic work, despite many distractions and potential interferences. It is inspiring to be in the presence of these young women. Their energy is infectious. We have recently discovered how very useful Skype can be.

Donations will be accepted via PayPal. Serial donations may be accomplished via periodic E-mails that will link donors to PayPal. Donors may direct their donations as specified below. When PayPal accepts a donation on our behalf, an opportunity will be available for donors who wish to direct their donation toward a specific service that we provide.  However, we encourage general fund donations because they provide us with flexibility.

Directed Donation Options:

General Fund:

Donations to this fund will be used by Posibilidad as needs dictate.

Scholarships:

Secondary students receive $25 monthly.
College students receive $50 monthly.

School Supplies:

Secondary students require uniforms, basic school supplies and matriculation fees every year.

Computers:

College students are provided with laptop computers ($200 each).  In Nicaragua WiFi is available via cellular telephone signal.  Students pay for computer "minutes" just as is done with cell phones.

Graduation:

Graduating students are given support for caps and gowns and associated costs.

Dental Care:

Students receive dental care as needed.  Dental visits average $25 each.

OB/gyn Care:

Students are provided with the 3 dose Cervarix HPV vaccination series. Each vaccination costs $70. Pap smear and OB/gyn care averages $35 per visit.

Pursuits:

Individual students are periodically supported for additional activities, for example theater or dance lessons and/or programs.

Group Activities:

Inspirational and recreational group trips are planned for school breaks twice per year, January and July. These trips involve explorations via Micro (microbus). These vehicles can carry 16 people so our group is a bit cozy for these trips. We expose our students to socially and environmentally progressive organizations and groups whenever possible. We also encourage physical adventure and self esteem boosting activities on these semi annual trips. We have explored Volcan Mombacho Cloud Forest Reserve, Volcan Masaya active volcanic vents and lava tube bat caves, we climbed Volcan Cosiguina, kayaked among Las Isletas de Cocibolca (Lago de Nicaragua). We have also visited Granada, Matagalpa, Esteli, San Juan del Sur and recently Ometepe Island. Rental for Micro is $70 per day plus room and meals for driver. Hotel is usually $15-$25 per night per person including breakfast. Various activities are usually affordable, but with 15-16 people it adds up. We often frequent a nice Buffet and our group can eat really well there (including leftovers to take home) for 800-1000 Cordobas which is $32-$40. You may opt to pay for any particular aspect of group activities that you may specify.

Emergency Fund:

Student Four required Thyroid Cyst surgery (2012). Students have required both episodic and on going health care. Other student families have required support to acquire necessary legal assistance. Emergency fund donations will help cover such expenditures.
